MORE ABOUT

Masters Sweep

The MRRA Masters Sweep program is TBD.  The program normally starts in May and is designed for the sweep rower with at least a year of sweep experience, including those who have completed Learn To Row in a prior year, collegiate rowers looking for continued training during the summer, or the sculler looking for a little relief from the challenge of two oars.

If you are a competitive collegiate rower looking to continue a high-level regimen during the summer, consider the Open Sweep program instead. There is a higher commitment in that program, but a higher work ratio as well.

There is capacity at the MRRA for two Masters Sweep sessions that run consecutively from May through the Fall head racing season.  Participation in both programs is not necessary, but if you do participate in either program, a high rate of attendance and commitment is expected for scheduling and planning purposes.

Basic expectations:

  • Rowers will have at least a year of sweep or significant sculling experience,

  • Sessions will be on the water for at least 75 to 90 minutes. Coaching instruction will be mixed with drills and longer workout pieces, providing a good mix of instruction and exercise.

  • Capacity in the program is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Membership in the MRRA is a requirement.  Check the Programs and Fees page for pricing.

    • Program MSWEEP1 will run 2 nights a week for 10 weeks May 19th through July 23rd, 2025. Mondays and Wednesdays from about 6 to 8pm.

    • The only guarantee is a minimum of 18 sessions, either on-water or coached erg session in case of rain. There are no scheduled sessions on Memorial Day and Fourth of July.

    • If ready and willing, we can race in the Festival Regatta in late June.

    • Program MSWEEP2 will start on Monday, July 28th and run for 10 weeks through October 1st.  We finish by racing in our home race, The Textile River Regatta!

The program requires at least 4 participants and is limited to 10 people max. Fill out the form below if you are interested in participating. Given the history of this program, it would be most beneficial for individuals to do their own recruiting to build a crew of 4 or 8 rowers.
