Rowing with the MRRA

There are two ways to row with the MRRA:

As a member of the Club: If you have prior sculling experience, you can join the club, take the Captain's Boat Test and be rowing on your own in short order. Prior experience is a requirement.

By taking our Learn To Row Program: For those with no rowing experience, or for sweep rowers looking to gain sculling experience, the MRRA offers a very popular community access program known as "Learn To Row" which has scheduled classes in the spring and summer under the direction of a coach and staff. For students with rowing experience who wish to row with the MRRA, we offer student memberships with restrictions:

You must be a full-time student, 18+ years of age,

The rowing season is restricted to June 1 through August 31,

May not row Class A boats,

and hours for sculling are restricted to after 9am any day.

Learn-To-Row
Membership in the MRRA is NOT required. This 6-week program offers 12 sessions of coached rowing in sweep and sculling boats for a broad exposure to the sport. The goal is for participants to be able to pass the Captain's Test at the end of the program so that they can join the MRRA and row on their own.

Membership
Membership in the MRRA is required before any other programs may be selected. This is the minimum choice to join the MRRA but it alone does not convey any rowing privileges.

Logbook Sculler
Logbook priviliges for Prime-Time Sculling. Membership in the MRRA is required.

Coached Rowing
Intermediate and Advanced options for personal coaching in a scheduled group environment. Membership in the MRRA is required.

Off-Peak Sculling

Sweep - Masters
Masters Sweep is not an active program in 2026, but with sufficient interest we can support coached or uncoached sweep rowing and racing. Contact masterssweep@merrimackrowing.org to state an interest. In plain terms, if multiples of four people have the interest, we have the boats. Membership in the MRRA is required.
