MORE ABOUT
Sweep Rowing
Rowing "sweep" is the act of rowing with a single oar per person in a multi-person boat. In our popular Learn To Row 6-week session, participants will learn to row in various sweep and sculling boats. Starting in an "eight" with a coxswain helps to build technique and teamwork to achieve the balance and speed that is the essence of the sport.
The MRRA has access to eights, fours, and pairs, and can support coached and uncoached sessions for sweep if there is sufficient interest.

We love coxswains. If you are a college student with some coxswain experience and would like to improve your skills under the direction of professional coaching in a low-stress beginner boat, this program is for you. In this program, the student will learn the very basics of rowing, including basic safety precautions, terminology of the sport and the essential mechanics of the art of rowing. You'll spend most of each session on the water in a relaxed learning environment that will give you a good foundation about the sport, and a great low-impact aerobic workout.
